"Index of Last Names in [my] family" results in 1,550 Surnames - only 83 of which belong to my family!

I only submitted ONE GEDCOM for both my paternal AND maternal lines of ancestors; when I printed my family's list of surnames - I got 7 FULL PAGES of surnames from "MY FAMILY."

I went through ALL SEVEN PAGES of surnames & marked the ones I recognzed as belonging to MY family; then I counted the TOTAL number of different surnames on all seven pages - OUT OF THE ALMOST 1,550 SURNAMES - I ONLY IDENTIFY WITH A TOTAL OF 83 SURNAMES!!

WHO could possibly have added/incorporated those '"other" 1467 surnames (not PEOPLE, but UNIQUE SURNAMES) INTO MY GEDCOM?? I see NO WAY to delete anyone from "my" family...my PERSONAL GEDCOM with at least 2000 individuals IS TOTALLY CORRUPTED NOW, and useless. WHAT CAN BE DONE TO FIX THIS??

Where did the GEDCOM file come from?
