why does the web site create a new "family" for me (named "Family # 5", etc.) every time I log in? How can I avoid this?

I haven't actually seen this behaviour before. Could you tell us what platform and browser you are using? It might be worthwhile to try it in a different browser to see if you get the same thing. Maybe post the exact steps you are following to see if anyone can figure out why this is happening?
