A lot of the people in my tree are marked "Duplicate." Why?

I have the same problem. They actually are duplicate; the same names are there in another part of the tree. Is there a way to delete the 'duplicate' boxes?

This usually happens when cousins marry (spouses have a common ancestor). It's a bug/feature of the F.E. website. I've brought this up with F.E. through the Feedback link, but they don't seem to be in a hurry to fix it.

Thanks Dan. By the way, how do you like FE? I've been evaluating it alongside other genealogy tools like Ancestry, MyHeritage, GenalogyJ, Gramps, and others, and it compares quite favorably considering it's free. One big difference, of course, is that the others have research and discovery features.
I like F.E. for its simplicity and its ability to display living relatives. I have a ton of cousins to keep track of (my maternal grand parents had 13 children). The other genealogy tools only display non living ancestors.
Another great free tool for research is the Family Search website of the LDS church at
