When tree view is set to 'multiple' what does the number on the corner of other people mean?

There are numbers on the corners of other people on my tree when my family tree view is set to multiple in the new update. I also don't understand what the partial or combined setting mean either

there are multiple charts when using the multiple setting number 1 on chart 1 is number 1 on chart 2. maybe scroll down if you cant see it.
partial just splits the tree to make it less complicated and easier to read. to see more of the tree just click on people. 
combined is pretty much the oppisite
