How come I can only add children to the eldest born in a generation?

How come I can only add children to the eldest born in a generation? For instance, I can add a child to grandma, but not grandma's brother.

You can add relatives as long as they are related to the founder of the tree. Depending on where you started the tree that may be why you can't add some relations.
