I was thinking of allowing family to view and edit.

Someone says if I allow family to edit, there is a history of edit page. Where is that? Also I do plan to backup using desktop software as the main source and this as a web source for family to view.
Thanks for the time.

The history link is along the bottom of the screen. You can use it now, but it will only show your edits. I think it's a good idea to have a "real" copy of the family tree somewhere, so that you can't lose any data when someone inevitably messes up.
