breaking down branches into separate trees

I have mistakenly added a very large branch that is not actually on my tree. I don't want to lose the work though. Is there a way to spin off a branch into it's own thing?

First of all, it is a good practice to export a copy of your GEDCOM file after each time you make a major edit (or maybe just each time). That way you can "restore from backup" if you need to.

But there are programs that let you manipulate GEDCOM files in various ways. For what you need, search for "Split GEDCOM file" and you should get some options.
