how are you able to see 2 ex people in a relationship but were divorcd bu had a kid?

If you add the two people as parents for the kid, you can then choose one of them and go to the 'Partners' tab in the left-hand panel. You should be able to change the relationship between the two to 'Divorced' to set the tree up as you want.
